We have gathered our Top 5 secret locations for New Year’s Eve. Check it out if you don’t want to celebrate it this year at home.

Berlin

Almost 1 million people come to Berlin to watch the countdown of the new year together. Places like the “Brandenburger Tor” or well-known clubs with special DJ acts are popular places to celebrate the New Year. But also, the capital offers quiet and super situated vantage points to enjoy the fireworks over the city. The hills “Drachenberg” or “Lübarser Höhe” and the “Viktoriapark” are great places to watch the fireworks. If you don’t want to or can’t decide for a single party, you can buy a New Year’s Eve ticket for a party hopping.

Berlin is so well connected that even on New Year’s Eve all buses and trains will bring you to your next place every 15 minutes. But don’t forget, there is a lot of partying going on in the train.

Rotterdam

On the famous Erasmus Bridge the largest fireworks will display in the Netherlands. Live music is played free of charge and the countdown to the new year starts already at 11 pm. A floating stage in the Meuse invites you to celebrate on the water.
But also, the clubs and bars in Rotterdam offer a lot of variety for example the “Nachtduik” here you can celebrate until 7 in the morning continuously in an old grain silo.

On New Year’s Eve the public transport in the city is available but with a changed schedule between 10 PM and 2 AM. Free parking is a rarity, consider this in your choice of accommodation.

Kitzbühel

You’d rather go to the mountains? Then Kitzbühel is the right address for you. Here you can celebrate privately in your own private chalet, in town or on the slopes. The city of Kitzbühel spends more than 1 million euros every year on fireworks. On the last day of the year a downhill torchlight procession with fireworks takes place, on New Year’s Day itself a giant show is presented, fireworks and athletes who jump with their boards through fire.

Also stars like George Clooney or Angelina Jolie like to spend the New Year holidays in the mountains, if you are lucky in the same place as you.

Kitzbühel’s hotels are happy to host a New Year’s Gala but also for those who want to take it a little easier and quieter the city has a lot to offer.

Barcelona

Are you tired of spending New Year’s Eve cold and wet? Then you should book your flights to Barcelona today. Here you can spend a great and dry New Year’s Eve in the city or on the beach at an average temperature of 15 degrees. The official celebrations take place at the “Font Màgica de Montjuic”, which is right next to the “Plaza Espana”. Beside a big firework you can expect a spectacular fire, water, music and light show which starts at 23:30 and leads perfectly into the fireworks.

If you decide to go to Spain, don’t forget the Spanish traditions, which are supposed to help you get lucky in the New Year: Wear red underwear, to eat a grape at midnight with every chime of the bell and kick off the New Year with cava.

Lyon

In France they also say “Réveillon de la St. Sylvestre” which means Holy New Year’s Eve. Basically, it’s about eating as much as possible before the new year starts. Traditionally, oysters and foie gras are eaten on New Year’s Eve and a genuine champagne is served. Throughout the winter season, and therefore also on New Year’s Eve, Lyon has a Ferris wheel and you can take a ride into the New Year. From up here, you have a great view over the city and the fireworks, which is often accompanied by a long honking concert.
