Liege has today the 6th largest cargo airport in Europe and the first in Belgium. However, Liège is not sufficiently highlighted when we refer to its as being a major European metropolis. Liège is a very rich city, both on a cultural and commercial level. Its geographical location is the source of numerous crossings between neighboring countries and markets. Indeed, it is possible to reach the largest economic centers of Europe such as Paris, London, Rotterdam and Berlin in 1 hour from Liège. Liège is therefore located in the heart of the “golden triangle”, the name given to the area between Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. In this blog we reveal the secrets of the Capital of Wallonia, Liège.

Major Industries and CSL
Since 1817, the town’s main industry has been majorly focused on metal processing on an industrial scale. This was particularly the case during the two world wars, in which the industry manufactured arms and munitions.
Nowadays Liège’s industry has diversified into space and mechanical industries. Rocket and aircraft propulsion technologies, space technologies, information technologies and biotechnologies but also the design and research of new technologies are driving the diversification.
In the city, you will find the Centre Spatial de Liège (CSL), a partner of NASA, and the centre for applied research of the University of Liege. This complex allows different tests to be carried out, simulating environments which represent the same characteristics as in space.
These very modern and technologically oriented areas show us how Liege has been able to evolve to a developing modern technology industry. A perfect place for all those who are passionate about the development of space and biological technologies.
